Leader's Column
Nobody can destroy the SLMC: Leader

SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem called upon the Muslims in the North and East to rally round SLMC to safeguard their rights and not to get distracted by splinter groups which were eyeing the local government election and adopting various strategies at the last minute to attract voters.

Addressing an election rally in Nintavur in the Ampara District,
Leader Hon. Rauff Hakeem said that some parties rushed to implement small scale development projects purely for electoral purposes and Muslims should not get caught in their traps. SLMC is the safety net which guards the rights of the Muslims,' the SLMC leader said addressing the rally.
He reminded how the party had fought for the rights of the people through democratic means in the past and vowed to continue the work. He added that the party would never support an armed struggle to win the community's rights.

Leader Hon. Rauff Hakeem said that the second phase of the local government elections on May 20 will be a decisive one as it will be an opportunity to show the strength of the community.

'If the SLMC wins all local bodies in the Muslim areas, including the Nintavur Pradeshiya Sabha, that will remind the international community how decisive the Muslim community is in the final solution,' he added.

He said the community and the government should beware of the groups who are calling for the de-merger of the North and East instead of addressing the grievances of the people.

The SLMC, he said, had faced one challenge after another, including several attempts to steal its party symbol. He added that the SLMC emerged stronger after every attempt by successfully defeating the dissidents and other conspirators.

'Nobody can destroy the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress' said the SLMC leader. Hon. Rauff Hakeem.

Muslim Community of Sri Lanka
The first wave of Muslims to arrive in Sri Lanka came from West Asia. Therefore let us briefly look at the Muslim achievements in West Asia. Islam originated in the Arab Peninsula, where the Prophet Mohammed preached in 622 AD.

The Struggle
As the third, and smallest, of the island's racial-religious communities, the Sri Lankan Muslims - have become the forgotten losers in this vicious struggle.

The Population
As the third, and smallest, of the island's racial-religious communities, the Sri Lankan Muslims - have become the forgotten losers in this vicious struggle.

Our Rights
The ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka has had a terrible effect on the Muslims. In the South, Muslims have been victims of riots and pogroms. In the North East the forcible eviction of more than one hundred thousand Muslims..
